This post is about squat stands. If you’re looking for power rack prices, click here.

While the prices of squat stands aren’t nearly as high as power racks, the prices are still pretty far apart. The prices used for the list are prices at the time of writing without shipping costs or extra accessories.

I’ve removed the brands and models since prices change and brands don’t like it if you post current prices. For the purposes of this article it doesn’t really matter anyways. The models on this list are a mix of very famous high quality brands and cheaper, less well known brands.

As you can see on this chart, the average price of a squat rack is about $275.

The prices range from $100 to $759. That’s a very wide range so let’s dive into the numbers a little bit more to get an understanding.

If we split the list up in fixed and adjustable models, we can see a pretty clear division.

Fixed squat racks have an average price of $347 with a range of $117 to $759. Ok, while the average is higher the range is still very wide. But what about if we take out the lowest and highest number?

Then we suddenly have an average of $330 with a range from $270 to $475. That’s a lot closer range and more indicative of a normal fixed squat rack. For adjustable stands, the numbers are quite different.

Adjustable squat stands are significantly cheaper than the fixed versions with an average price of $134 with a range of $100 to $165.

This price is much lower than the average price of a fixed stand. That might raise the question; What do you get for paying more money?

What do you get for more money?

So you can notice that there is a big difference in price between fixed and adjustable stands. What does that extra money get you and where do you get the best value for money?

There are a few key features that make fixed squat racks worth paying extra for if you need them.

The first difference is that the load limit for fixed stands is way higher. Where adjustable stands can handle somewhere from 300 lbs. to 550 lbs., fixed stands can be loaded up from 500 to 1000 lbs. or even more.

Because of the way they upright posts are constructed from a single piece of steel, the fixed ones are much stronger. That strength doesn’t only translate in a higher load limit but also just in a much more solid feeling product. A solid feel is what you want when putting a lot of weight on your bar and on your back. Taking the bar off a shaky stand doesn’t give you the confidence to lift heavy.

The other feature is a pull up bar. Fixed stands often have the option to mount a pull up bar on the top. For most people a pull up bar is very valuable to have on a squat rack. A squat stand usually takes the space of the power rack because there is no space/money/need for both. A pull up bar is one of the more important features of a power rack.

Suggested post: How tall is a squat stand?

Sure you can use a door frame pull up bar can work but it’s not quite the same. A rack or squat stand with pull up bar is much better. An adjustable stand never has a pull up bar since the top of the stand is where the barbell goes.

Finally, the last difference is that most fixed versions are made by the big names in fitness equipment, while most of the adjustable ones are made by much less known brands. Of course you pay extra for a brand but in return you also get; better quality control, service, and often quality.

What’s best for you?

For most people that want a solid rack that will last for a long time and has a pull-up bar, a fixed squat rack in the lower price range is the best choice (Around $300). While this isn’t much cheaper than a full power rack, you save the space and also keep most of the features of a full rack.

Suggested post: Squat stand vs. power rack: What’s the difference?

They are almost as expensive as the cheaper full racks because often they’re just adaptations from those full racks. That means there is slightly less material but the construction, quality control, etc. is the same.

If you don’t need a pull up bar, have a very low ceiling or don’t lift heavy weights, you can go for an adjustable rack. This is significantly cheaper. A decent adjustable stand costs around $150. That’s half the price but as said, you do miss out on some things.
